First Saturday of Every Month
The First Saturday of every month is Maintenance Day. All firefighters and support members show up at the Fire Station and get to work. All Fire Trucks are put through a Maintenance checklist, driven and filled up if needed. Portable Generators and the Jaws of Life are fired up to make sure everything is in prime condition. After the checklists are complete, we wash and polish all the Fire Trucks. The Support Van is put through a checklist to ensure it is in top condition; then it is cleaned and restock preparing it for the next fire. After we tend to the vehicles, we sweep out the bays, clean the bathroom and empty all the trash.
Did you know you can bring all your aluminum cans for recycling? There are large barrels in the front of the building to collect these during the month. On maintenance day Ron Stone and his group of volunteers pour all the aluminum cans out on the drive and we run over them to crush the cans to make a few more dollars. It’s actually fun! My Granddaughter thought is was a hoot.
It’s a workday, and it is an important day when we take care of the vehicles, equipment, the buildings and each other. There is always a lot of laughing and hugging and talking going on. It’s one of the few times we all get together, that isn’t an emergency situation, so we all enjoy this day.
